Uno World Record Attempt Set Saturday

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and YMCA will attempt to set a world record on Saturday.

The Youth Bureau and YMCA hope to conduct the world’s largest Uno card game.

Organizers have already contacted Guinness and are well on their way to setting the record, according to Brian Chetney, a Youth Services Specialist with the Youth Bureau.

Registration will start at 11 a.m. with competition commencing around noon, according to Mike Perkins of the YMCA Armory.

“Plans for Uno are going well.  I think we are all set other than set up and people showing up to play,” Chetney said.

He added organizers aren’t sure how many players will show up.

A lot of people are committing, but plan on signing up the day of the event, he explained.

It can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes (sometimes more) to complete a game.

Complete rules will be available the day of the tournament and a briefing will be held prior to the start of play.

The winner will receive a trophy (and a world record), Chetney added.

Currently, a group in West Virginia holds the world’s record with 330 players.

“I want to be sure we get the record. I want to put Oswego on the map,” Perkins said.

Food is being supplied by Cam’s NY Pizza and the YMCA (lemonade).

“The YMCA has been hard at work. Novelis is supplying tables and chairs,” Chetney said. “We need people!”
