OSWEGO, NY – At about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oswego Police were notified of a vehicular pursuit coming into the city of Oswego via State Route 481.

The suspect vehicle was reportedly being pursued by Fulton City Police and Oswego County Sheriff’s deputies.

Oswego city units were dispatched to assist in deploying stop sticks in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The Fulton Police Department unit attempted to stop the suspect initially for speeding in the city of Fulton on State Route 481 at Shaw Street.

The suspect failed to comply and continued northbound on State Route 481, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph.

While Oswego City Police units were en-route to assist, the pursuit had already entered the city of Oswego on State Route 481.

The suspect vehicle entered the parking lot of Tim Horton’s, 200 E. First St.

Responding law enforcement agencies attempted to block the vehicle’s egress from the parking lot and that is when the operator of the vehicle drove toward at least one Oswego City Police officer who was on foot attempting to approach the suspect vehicle.

The officer was able to avoid being struck by the suspect vehicle, but as the suspect vehicle left the parking lot it struck an Oswego Police Department vehicle and an Oswego County Sheriff’s Department vehicle.

The suspect vehicle then fled west on Utica Street, struck a tree and caused some property damage on West Utica Street at Fifth Avenue, then continued on Fifth Avenue toward State Route 104.

As the pursuit continued, several other Oswego County Sheriff’s vehicles were struck by the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle then traveled west on State Route 104 and exited the city of Oswego.

It was then that Oswego Police units discontinued their involvement in the pursuit.

The vehicle finally stopped at, what was later to be determined as, the suspect’s residence on State Route 104 approximately a half mile west of the city of Oswego.

The suspect exited his vehicle and as responding officers from the Oswego County Sheriff’s
Department and Fulton Police Department confronted him the man then displayed a folding knife.

Officers took the suspect into custody with the use of a Taser.

The suspect was transported to Oswego Hospital for evaluation.

In all, three Oswego County Sheriff’s Department vehicles and one Oswego Police Department vehicle were damaged in the incident.

No Fulton Police Department vehicles were damaged and there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident.

The investigation into the incident remains on-going and specific charges are pending the results of that investigation.
