MINETTO, NY – With thundershowers on Saturday morning, the water chestnut pull planned for the Battle Island area was postponed until the next day, Sunday the 8th.

Eleven volunteers using kayaks and canoes worked the Oswego River, along the west and south sides of Battle Island, the west shore of the mainland and the channel between Factory Island and Battle Island Golf Course.
Using the the canoes as portable depots, each canoe took on several loads of water chestnuts.
A noticeable decrease in the chestnut quantities was observed along the west shore of Battle Island after five years of pulling the chestnuts in that area.

Pulling the water chestnuts does make an impact on the spread of chestnuts.
Another water chestnut pull will be planned in the next few weeks to work on additional areas.

THANK god for these folks. We need to get rid of a lot of invasive species. Travel has brought to our doorstep (or shores) many, many plants and animals that do not have a natural enemy. THESE people are helping the soon to be endangered plants and animals which are native to our area.
THANKS again!
