OSWEGO – At approximately 7:35am this morning, the City of Oswego Fire and Police Departments were alerted to a possible body floating in the Oswego River. Firefighters and Police Officers quickly responded to the area of the Oswego River near West Seneca Street, both on land and with rescue vessels in the water.

A drone from the City of Oswego was also launched and deployed to the area. An adult female was quickly located near the west wall of the Oswego River, where Firefighters and Police Officers made contact and moved her to a nearby dock. The female was pulled from the water by Oswego Firefighters, and life-saving efforts were initiated immediately. The unresponsive patient was moved to a stretcher where Paramedics from the Oswego Fire Department and Menter Ambulance continued advanced life support interventions.

The patient was placed in an Menter Ambulance and transported to the Oswego Hospital Emergency Department in critical condition. Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone applauded the efforts of all first responders on the scene, stating, “This was an outstanding team effort in a very challenging environment. The Oswego River is flowing at a high velocity, and water temperatures are still below 50 degrees. Outstanding and coordinated response by members of the Oswego Fire Department, Oswego Police Department, and Menter Ambulance.” The Oswego Police Department is conducting the investigation to determine how and where the victim entered the water.

Anyone with related information is asked to contact Oswego Police Department Investigator Derek Jannson at (315) 342-8120.
