OSWEGO, NY – A Watertown man was charged with trying to bribe someone not to testify against him in court, Oswego County deputies say.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, Matthew D. Roof, 34, of 26279 Middle Road, Watertown, was arrested for first-degree criminal contempt, a class E felony and bribing a witness, a class D felony.
The charges stem from an investigation into an incident in which he allegedly violated a current order of protection by contacting the victim by cellular phone, which was given to the victim by Roof as an alleged benefit for not testifying on him in court.
Roof was arraigned by Hon. Judge Clark and remanded to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $40,000 cash or $90,000 bond.
He is to return to Town of Hastings Court on June 22.
