Mayor Rob Corradino Has Announced That Due To The Eclipse Event On Monday April 8Th, All Non-Essential City Employees Will Work Until Noon

OSWEGO – Mayor Rob Corradino has announced that due to the Eclipse event on Monday April 8th, all non-essential city employees will work until noon. However, Oswego Police Department, Oswego Fire Department, and Public Works Department personnel will be working to assure a safe viewing day for everyone. The total solar eclipse will begin at 2:08 pm, with totality occurring at 3:21 and will last for 3 minutes, 30 seconds and conclude after 4:30 pm.

In addition, the regularly scheduled Monday night Common Council meeting will be moved to Tuesday April 9th and will begin at 7:15 pm with a public session.

Due to the anticipated influx of people coming to the area, traffic is estimated to be highest in the afternoon and into the evening especially after totality ends. Please have extra patience during the day as it may take extra time to get around the city.

Eye safety is also of utmost importance to avoid serious injury when viewing the solar eclipse. Regular sunglasses will not protect your eyes. Only special purpose solar filters that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard allow people to safely look directly at the sun. Keep in mind that these special eclipse glasses should only be used for eclipse viewing and not while engaging in other activities such as driving.

The city is offering free eclipse glasses while supplies last at the following locations and times:

Oswego Visitor Center at 201 West First street:

Thursday April 4th and Friday April 5th – 11 am to 1 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm
