A Pulaski Community Resource Fair, the first of its kind, is being held on Friday, April 28;  the Pulaski American Legion Post 368 hosting the event, located at  3350 Maple Ave. in the Village of Pulaski. The Fair will run from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Three local organizations have teamed up to sponsor this event: the Oswego County Office for the Aging, The Pulaski Community Task Force, and The Village of Pulaski.

Oswego County Office for the Aging Senior Aging Services Director Elizabeth Weimer is a member of the Pulaski Community Task force. Weimer had been searching for a location in the Pulaski area to hold an event such as this; creating access to the people of Northern Oswego County.

“Pulaski Mayor Jan Tighe said ‘Let’s start brainstorming’ and reached out to the American Legion, and they were generous enough to donate the location.” Weimer said.

The Legion hall will be filled with tables, displays and knowledgeable professionals to speak with, allowing county residents to have access to a wide variety of helpful services; also giving them connections that will alot  for a more healthful and comfortable lifestyle in Oswego County.

Some of the agencies represented at the Community Resource Fair will be in search of volunteers, providing a useful outlet for the energies of those recently retired.

The planned 3 to 6 p.m. time frame was purposefully selected to accommodate the schedules of working people, and to make the event as accessible as possible for a wide variety of interested residents, regardless of age.

“We are currently up to 28 vendors coming, including Oswego Health, the Oswego County Health Department, several insurance companies, the Child Advocacy Center, the Central New York Senior Action League, [and]  the SAF program … we really just want the community to know that we are trying to start an annual event; and that if you just connect with the right person, you are going to open the door for a lot more services,” Weimer said.

Weimer has organized similar events in other rural parts of Oswego County, and has plans in the works to continue to expand farther out into the thinly populated areas.

“It really makes me feel glad to see that so many agencies want to be able to help the more rural part of our community…and we are all a community, all of Oswego County,” Weimer said.

According to Tighe, she is excited to have this event planned for the benefit of the Northern Oswego County Community.

“A lot of people in this portion of the county are not aware of the benefits that they can take advantage of, especially our senior citizens,” Tighe said.
