State Police Confirm Identification of Human Remains in Oswego County

OSWEGO COUNTY – The New York State Police in Pulaski have confirmed that human remains discovered in the town of New Haven have been positively identified as John T. Humphrey, who was reported missing in 2012.

On September 1, 2025, the property owner of 451 Darrow Road in the town of New Haven was clearing a trail through wooded property when he discovered what appeared to be human remains. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office initially responded, and through DNA comparison, the remains were identified as belonging to John T. Humphrey, born November 21, 1963, of Oswego.

Humphrey was last seen on June 2, 2012, walking along State Route 104 near the New Haven Fire Department after leaving his residence at the Sumatra Apartment complex on Birch Lane in the town of Scriba.

Mr. Humphrey, a U.S. Army veteran, was 48 years old at the time of his disappearance. He had been reported missing to the State Police in Pulaski, and despite extensive searches and public appeals for information, he was never located.

At this time, investigators report no indications of foul play, and the cause of death remains undetermined pending further examination.

The New York State Police extend their condolences to the Humphrey family and thank the public and partnering agencies for their assistance over the years.
