OSWEGO COUNTY – The New York State Police are investigating a fatal residential structure fire that occurred on May 21, 2026, at approximately 4:26 a.m. at 870 County Route 41 in the town of Richland.
Troopers responded to the residence following a report of a structure fire and arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Ringgold Fire Department and Richland Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
During the investigation, a deceased male, was located inside the residence.
The fire was contained to the residence and did not spread to any nearby structures.
At this time, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire. The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remains ongoing.
Agencies responding to the scene included the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Mexico Fire Department, Pulaski Fire Department, Sandy Creek Fire Department, Oswego County Fire Coordinators, Parish Fire Department, West Monroe Fire Department, Lacona Fire Department, Hastings Fire Department, Altmar Fire Department, Oswego County Fire Cause and Origin, New York State Fire Investigators, and McFee Ambulance.
