AUBURN, NY – Following is a statement from Cayuga Community College President Dr. Brian Durant after the SCOTUS Affirmative Action decision:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision regarding the use of affirmative action in college admissions is disappointing and a damaging blow to students, families and the higher education system. Like our fellow SUNY institutions, Cayuga prides itself as being a home for all students, one dedicated to creating accessible educational pathways and opportunities for students to achieve the lives and careers they choose. Our promise of equitable access to higher education, and our admiration and respect for students who pursue that path, will not change in light of today’s announcement.”

  1. What a joke this response is. Using race as a deciding factor for anything should be looked down on not looked up to. The sad part is that it was an Asian student that sued not even a white person. Have any of you people looked at the definition of discrimination? It is about time this was thrown out. You cannot refuse a job to someone by race but some how you can use race to keep students out of colleges? Give me a break!! We are building a very sad future of young people when we continue to throw temper tantrums over issues like this. Any politician who supports overturning this ruling should be thrown out of their position or voted out of office. You want a diverse student population stop asking race questions on applications and allow grades and extra curricular activities and references speak for themselves.

  2. Honey check your facts…..the anti affirmative action movement at Harvard was led by a “Non-asian” student.
