Two Oswego County Teens Dead After Coming Into Contact With Live Wires On Downed Tree

REDFIELD, NY – Yesterday, August 31, at around 10:47 p.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the area of 6200 County Route 17, in the Town of Redfield, when two Oswego County teenagers were pronounced dead after coming into contact with live wires.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck, occupied by four teenagers, was traveling on County Route 17 when it collided with a tree that was knocked down by a storm. After colliding with the tree, the truck ended up in a nearby ditch.

Shortly after exiting the vehicle, the driver, Madysen Young, 17, of Sandy Creek, New York, and a passenger, Matthew Bice, 17, of Albion, New York, contacted live wires that were entangled with the downed tree. Both Young and Bice were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two 16-year-old boys survived the incident.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Redfield Volunteer Fire Department and NOCA Ambulance.
