OSWEGO, NY — The Oswego State men’s soccer team fell to the Norwich University Cadets 3-2 on Saturday. The Lakers fall to 1-1 with the loss and Norwich improves to 1-1.
Oswego came out of the gates firing as Harrison Rieber was able to muster a shot-on-goal within the first two minutes. Just a minute later, the senior made another attempt on the goal with a header missing slightly wide.
After falling behind 2-0 through 23 minutes of play, the Lakers got on the board. Mitch Brickman hooked a shot on a line to find an open space for the goal. The score was his first of the season.
In the 81st minute, Oswego found some late magic. Brickman punted the ball up in the air about 30 yards from the goal. Thomas Osborn settled beneath the pop and timing it perfectly, headed the ball toward the goal where it slipped between the goalie and the crossbar.
Despite the late goal and four chances in the final nine minutes to tie the game, the Lakers rally fell just short.
The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for a contest against Hamilton College at Laker Turf Stadium.
