Anna Maria Michalski, 86, of the Town of Scriba passed away November 13, 2009 after a long illness. Anna Maria was born in Palermo, Sicily, the daughter of Angelo and Angelina (Montabano) Carrara. Anna Maria served as a nurse during World War II in St Marks Church, a makeshift Hospital in Palermo Sicily; where was wounded in an air raid that killed her brother Giuseppe a member of the Italian Navy. She was a graduate of Madam Santan’s Rosalie School of dress design in Naples, Italy. Anna Maria met her husband, Frank Michalski, in Naples while swimming in the Bay of Naples. He was stationed in the United States Navy on the USS Macon.

Anna Maria came to the United States in 1946, and was naturalized in 1955.

After coming to the United States she worked as a seamstress and dress maker for many years she worked at Osted’s dress manufacturing company, Alma Foundations, and SUNY Oswego before retiring in 1980. Anna Maria made many wedding gowns for brides throughout Oswego County. She was a sports fan and an avid hockey fan. She traveled all over the county with her grandsons and sewed for many Oswego Minor Hockey teams. She was a member of ILGW Union and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a member of the American Legion, and St. Johns Ladies Auxiliary. She was sorority mother to Alpha Mu Delta Sorority. Anna Maria and her husband Frank traveled all over the world in their retirement and they returned to her home in Sicily several times.

Anna Maria was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2003; her sisters Dora,

Maria, Pauline and Rosa all of Italy; and one brother, Giuseppe of Italy.

Anna Maria is survived by 4 children, her devoted daughter, Victoria
(Charles) Mullen, Town of Oswego; Gerald (Maria Vono) Michalski, Town of Oswego; Peter (Lianne) Michalski, Clarence, NY; Frank (Joann) Michalski, Hampton, VA; her daughter-in-law, Suzanne E. Michalski of Cary NC; one brother, Salvatore Carrara of Torino Italy; 11 Grandchildren: Joseph (Megan) Mullen, of New Gosford, Australia. Patrick James Mullen of Atlanta, Georgia

Adam (Darcy) Michalski, Oswego, New York, Amanda (Chris) Gosek, Clayton, North Carolina; Benjamin ( Melanie Melker) Michalski of Cary, North Carolina; Shawn (Karen) Michalski, of North Tonawanda, New York; Jeremy (Rebecca) Michalski, of Salisbury, Maryland; Aaron (Kelly) Michalski, Charlotte, North Carolina; Private Michael (Joelle) Michalski, *Stationed in Iraq, and Alicia and Daniel Michalski of Hampton, Virginia. and great-grandchildren, Adam Jr., Anna and Isaac Michalski, Brydie and Hunter McQuaid, Stella Mae Gosek, Morgan Rae Michalski, and Lucas Alexander Michalski. Anna Maria is also survived by many nieces and nephews throughout Italy.

Funeral services will be held Wed. 8:30AM from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 9:00AM in St. Mary’s Church. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4-7PM at the funeral home.
