OSWEGO, NY – Frank J. Kraft, 88, a resident of 172 E. Fifth St., died on July 23, 2008, at Oswego Hospital after an extended illness.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Peter and Henrietta (Yuneling) Kraft.
He was a graduate of St. Paul’s Academy, Oswego High School and Syracuse University.
Mr. Kraft was an art teacher for Oswego schools, mainly at Fitzhugh Park, for many years.
His local art career spanned several decades and included commissioned water color works which depicted historical places like St. Mary’s Church and the Oswego Lighthouse.
These artworks can be seen at the H. Lee White Marine Museum, Oswego Hospital, several banks and in numerous local homes.
In addition to his painting, Mr.Kraft also enjoyed gardening.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Burma.
The home on Fifth Street was the focal point of the Kraft family.
They lived together and enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and Florida.
The primary concern of each individual was the well-being of the whole family.
They nurtured one another throughout the years.
When possible, all four joined in attending daily Mass.
The blessings that were bestowed upon the family were always shared with their many friends.
Surviving are his three sisters, Jeanne, Grace and Betty; three cousins, Mary Ann Stirling of Oswego, Jean Poole of Auburn and Kathy Chapman of Massachusetts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 p.m.
Contributions may be made to either St. Paul’s Church or Oswego Hospital.

Mr. Kraft was my art teacher at Fitzhugh Jr High. He was a wonderful teacher who instilled in me a lifelong interest in art and the artworld. Mr. Kraft was always enthusiastic, patient, and made his class interesting. I was fortunate to purchase one of his watercolors, which hangs proudly in my home. My condolences to his family.
