PHOENIX, NY – Cora N. Smart Sturge, 87, of Phoenix, NY, passed away on Tuesday April 10, 2018, at Oswego Hospital.
She was born in the town of Sterling, NY, on March 21, 1931, to her late parents Jennie (Wilcox) and Henry W. O’Brien.
Cora was a home health aide under the Oswego Hospital’s program.
She was a wonderful caregiver to the many people she served over several years.
Besides her parents, Cora was also predeceased by her first husband, Howard E. Smart; her second husband, Elwood C. “Woody” Sturge; her sister, Mary Cardew; her two brothers, Donald O’Brien and Charles O’Brien.
Cora loved country music and was a singer and musician.
She liked to watch Syracuse University Basketball games.
Cora was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Charlie & Penny Smart,
Edwin and Linda Smart, Lester and Beth Smart, and Jennie Smart; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Richard and Shirley O’Brien, William and Linda O’Brien; one sister and her spouse, Marjorie and Larry Robinson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours and funeral services will be on Tuesday April 17,
from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, with the funeral service beginning at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Justin Hood will officiate the service.
Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in Crown Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, town of Kirkland Oneida County.
