Joyce E. Godfrey, 87

PHOENIX, NY – Joyce E. Godfrey, 87, of Pennellville, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 8, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Phoenix, to her late parents, Julia Olive (Teachout) and Asa G. Candee, on Dec. 14, 1929.

She grew up in Pennellville and is a graduate of Phoenix High School, class of 1948.

She was employed by Miller Brewing Co., Volney, NY.

Joyce was an active member of Pennellville United Methodist Church, serving as trustee, Merry’s Stitchers and other church activities.

Among many other interests, Joyce was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her son, James, in 2017; her brothers, Lynn, Wilson, and Milton.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John C. Godfrey; her son, David Godfrey (Marianne Gillette); her daughter, Karen (Henry) Fuller all of Pennellville; her grandchildren, Dana Godfrey (Matthew Brophy), Gregory Reynolds (Danielle Szulanski), Daimon (Valarie) Oberholtzer, and Danielle Oberholtzer; three great-grand
children; her daughter-in-law, Tonya Godfrey of Tully; her brother, Irving Candee of Baldwinsville; her sister, Marjorie (Bill) Godfrey of Pennellville; several nieces, nephews,
and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Monday Nov. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix.

A Funeral service in celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Tuesday Nov. 14, at noon in the Pennellville United Methodist Church, 385 County Route 54, Pennellville, with the Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating.

Burial to follow in Pennellville Cemetery on County Route 54, Pennellville.
