Robert T. O’Connell, 58

PHOENIX, NY – Robert T. O’Connell, 58, ‘D. J. Bob,’ of Phoenix, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday Nov. 7, 2017.

He was born in Syracuse, NY, to his late parents, Betty (Burton) and Robert E. O’Connell on Feb. 1, 1959.

He was a graduate of J. C. Birdlebough High School, class of 1978, Phoenix, NY.

Bob was a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Transportation, Onondaga County, and had retired.

He was affectionately known as “D. J. Bob” due to his part-time job.

Thus he was an avid music and collector of DVDs.

He was a huge Oakland Raiders fan as well.

Bob adored his grandchildren, Karly and Robert, and was their primary babysitter.

Surviving are his loving wife of 15 years, Judy Turner; his son, Michael (Samantha) O’Connell; his grandchildren, Karly and Robert; his step-son, Jacob (Britany) Dievendorf, and Annie Dievendorf.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Pennellville United Methodist Church, 385 County Route 54, Pennellville.

A celebration of his life will be on Monday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Jeff Hodge officiating.
