Albert J. Gentile, 74

OSWEGO, NY – Albert J. Gentile, 74, a resident of 115 Murray St., passed away on Monday April 26, 2010, at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Mariano) Gentile.

Mr. Gentile owned and operated Gentile’s Gardens on State Route 48 for 35 years.

He also was employed with the Marathon Corporation and Nestles.

He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed his gardens and reading history books.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Joan Bishop; one son, Michael (Freda) Gentile of North Carolina; four sisters, Theresa Fultz, Mary Cathcart, Rosalee Kandt and Betty (Paul) Ketchum; and a brother Joe (Cathy) Gentile.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

  2. Dear Joan, Very sorry to hear about AL. We had a lot of good times, and a lot of good conversations and I enjoyed being able to help at the garden shop, I learned a lot from both of you.
