Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ Bumpus, 85

OSWEGO, NY – Elizabeth J. “Betty” Bumpus, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Tuesday May 6, 2014, in North Carolina.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Myrtle (Josh) Vickery.

She attended Oswego schools and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

She was employed with the Bell Telephone Company for more than 40 years and had the honor of being the first frame dame for the company.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and was a volunteer at the Veterans’ Hospital in Florida.

Betty’s favorite thing to do was to clean.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Charles F. Bumpus Jr.; a daughter, Maryfrances (Richard Jachim) Bumpus of Minetto; a son, Charles F. Bumpus III of Tampa; a sister, Myrtle Fleischman of Oswego; nieces and nephews; and her parakeet, Pheobe.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Jack Vickery.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 – 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in Pulaski Village Cemetery.
