Eugene S. Warnel, 88

OSWEGO, NY – Eugene S. Warnel, 88, a resident of Liverpool, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2012, at his home.

Born in Nanticoke, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Agatha (Zegryzn) Warnel and was a graduate of the Nanticoke High School.

He received both his BA and MA from Fordham University.

Gene was well known for being a caring and compassionate French and Spanish teacher at the Henniger High School for many years.

Mr. Warnel was a veteran of World War II, serving with United States Army.

His volunteer work was examplary, having volunteered at the VA Hospital for four years and St. Camillus for 18 years.

He was a member of the Blue Army and the Rosary Society at the Marion Center.

Surviving are three nieces, Maryanne Patulski, Carolyn (John) Dowdle and Rosemary Wydawski;  five nephews, Paul (Linda) Patulski, Walter (Karen) Patulski, Ron (Kate) Patulski, Richard (Martha) Patulski and Stephen (Wende) Janas; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his three sisters, Antoinette Patulski, Sophia Wydawski and Albina Janas; and two brothers, Clem Warnel and Bill Sudow.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville NY.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Noll Scholarship at Lemoyne College.
