George E. Bennett Sr., 59

OSWEGO, NY – George E. Bennett Sr., 59, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Friday April 25, 2014, at St.Luke Health Services.

Born in Fulton, NY, he was a son of the late Erwin Bennett and Alice (Darling) Burnett.

He attended schools in Fulton and Hannibal and was a graduate of Mexico High School.

He was a LPN for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed crafts and loved to garden.

Surviving besides his mother are his five children, George E. (Tonya) Bennett Jr. of Mexico, Kevin (Holly) Bennett of Oswego, Krystal Bristol of Hannibal, Ryan (Nina) Bennett of Mexico and Helen (David) Wyman of Oswego; a sister, Donna Ingersoll of Mexico; five brothers, Howard Bennett of Oswego, Kenneth Greenleaf of Liverpool, Scott Greenleaf of Fulton, Fred Greenleaf of Kirkville and Robert Burnett of Hannibal; his stepfather, Robert Burnett; his former wife, Karen Bennett; 11 grandchildren; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m.

  1. George Bennett was one heck of a guy. He always had us laughing in nursing school. That’s where I met him. he will be missed by so many that knew him. R.I.P my friend may you soar with the angels ……..

  3. So sad to hear of George’s passing. I do remember him from nursing school. I too remember his sense of humor and he was so smart. RIP George.

  4. George was easy to be around and could always make us laugh. He was good a friend of my brother Jim from childhood right up to adulthood when my brother past away. He will be missed. Our condolence to his family.

  5. George was a good friend of my brother Jimmy from childhood right up until their adulthood when Jimmy past away. He would make us all laugh just about the whole time he was around us. He will be missed!!

  6. Lt. Bennett i am so sorry to hear about your dad my deepest sympathy goes out to your the whole Bennett family. My prays and thoughts all are with you. I didn’t know your dad but if he was anything like you he was a terrific, caring, and a wonderful man.

  7. Condolences to George’s family. I hold fond memories of working with George, at Loretto Hts. ; he was a good nurse and a kind and compassionate person. He was always smiling and had a delightful sense of humor.
