Helen W. Bevz, 94

OSWEGO, NY – Helen W. Bevz, 94, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Tuesday March 11, 2014, at her home.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kida) Zarzycki.

She attended the Oak Hill School and Fitzhugh Park School and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

She was employed with Nestle’s for two years during World War II but for most of her life she was a homemaker.

Helen was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, was chair of the bazaar for many years and at one time was the church historian.

She loved to cook for her family and was an animal lover.

Helen was proud of her Polish heritage and spoke fluent polish.

Helen was an avid traveler.

She traveled throughout Europe and Russia many times and even heard Pope John Paul II speak in St. Peter’s Square.

Helen traveled to Israel to visit the Homeland.

Some of her favorite memories where her yearly trips to Las Vegas and she once went to Denver where she drove through the Rocky Mountains.

Surviving are her son, William “Billy” Bevz of Oswego; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Bevz, in 1999; her son, John “Jack” Bevz, in 2007; and  her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Bevz, in 1957.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

  1. SORRY TO HEAR OF HELEN’S PASSING. SHE DID LIVE A GOOD LONG LIFE. SHE HAD A PICTURE OF MY FATHER, THAT SHE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE A COPY MADE FOR ME. IT WAS A BASEBALL GAME , I BELIEVE AT OAK HILL PARK, WITH MY DAD & SUG SMITH PLAYING BASEBALL . I WOULD APPRECIATE THATPICTURE IF U HCAN FIND IT, MY CELL PHONE IS 592-1356. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
