Maria Louise Tompkins

OSWEGO, NY – Maria Louise Tompkins passed away on Monday February 4, 2013, at Loretto Fahey in Syracuse.

She was a lifetime resident of Oswego, residing at 192 East Seventh Street for most of her life.

Louise was born on February 8, 1916, and was the daughter of the late DeAlbert and Mabel (Bullock) Earl.

She was a graduate of Oswego High School.

She was the wife of Richard B. Tompkins, who predeceased her in 1999.

She was employed with Green’s in Oswego and was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

She was a volunteer for the Human Concerns Center and RSVP.

Louise loved to travel, attend concerts, play bridge and always enjoyed a round of golf.

She even had her first hole-in-one at the age of 87!

Surviving are her two daughters, Sharon (Clark) Denton and her family, grandson, Scott (Sara) Denton, great-granddaughter, Mariah Denton, granddaughter Emily (Joseph) Campbell and great-grandsons, Austin, Benjamin and Mason Campbell all of North Syracuse; daughter, Cheryl (Randy) McCullough and her family, grandsons, Kevin and Christopher McCullough of Camillus and grandson, Matthew (Kelly) McCullough and great-grandsons, Liam and Brayden McCullough of Fayetteville.

Also surviving are several cousins among whom are Betty (Pete) Mulvihilll of Lakeland NY and Peter, Judy and Amanda Mulvihill of Baldwinsville.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, which would have been Louise’s 97th birthday, at 5 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 3-5 prior to the service.

Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

  1. I worked with Louise when I was in high school and she was always very nice to me. She worked at Green’s along time and never changed. She was a very nice lady.
