Roberta ‘Max’ Gifford, 72

OSWEGO, NY – Roberta “Max” Gifford, 72, a resident of East Ninth Street, passed away on Tuesday January 15, 2013, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Finnan) Maxwell.

She was a graduate of Oswego High School and had attended the Rochester Business Institute.

She was a legal secretary for many lawyers and judges in the Oswego area.

She retired from the Port Authority after 25 years of service.

Max always had a good time at Thirstys for Sunday football and also enjoyed watching Nascar.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Mike) Martin of Oswego; two granddaughters, Casie and Allison; a great-grandson, Colin; and her dog, Maggie.

She was predeceased by her brother, Col. John C. Maxwell Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. from St.Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

  1. Ms. Max just want to say I love you. And every time the Gators play I will be thinking of you. Really wish I could have made it up there to see. I know Patti and the girls are going to miss you. But we all know you are in a better place now. And you are not in any pain no more.. Until we see each other again .. I love you Dina Moore

  2. My deepest sympathy goes out to you Patricia and your family. Max you will be missed but know more pain is with you now. Pat i rented off your mom for so long and she was a great lady. She always had a smile when i seen her and very happy person and enjoyed life.
