William E. Gardner, 94

OSWEGO, NY – William E. Gardner, 94, a resident of East Ninth Street, passed away on Tuesday January 8, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Minetto, he was a son of the late Ross and Florence (Kelsey) Gardner and had attended local schools.

Bill retired from Boilermakers#175 in 1983 after 41 years of service.

Mr. Gardner was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the American Legion #268, VFW #585 and the Oswego Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed walking, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are his longtime companion, Barbara Knosp of Oswego; a son, David Gardner; two granddaughters, Michelle Gardner and Stacey Lacik; a brother, Brian Gardner of Oswego; two sisters, Jean Conzone of Oswego and Patricia Maher of Rochester; five great -grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Earl and Richard Gardner; and five sisters, Dorothy Yamrose, Marion Loughery, Marie Kimpland, Betty Davis and Dawn Saxbury.

He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law and best friend, Dick Davis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.

Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m.
