William R. Caruso, 91

OSWEGO, NY – William R. Caruso, 91, a resident of Oswego passed away on Tuesday October 16, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Romao and Alvina (Polega) Caruso and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

Mr. Caruso was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

He was the co-founder and co-owner of Northern Steel and the Oswego Speedway with his brothers, Harry and George.

He was an avid fan of car racing.

Surviving are his son, W. Brian (Sue) Caruso of Cicero; two daughters, Kristin (John) Cree of Ringoes NJ and Kenda (Michael) Knight of Oswego; five grandchildren, Dustin Knight, Casey (Geoff) Loughery, Krissy Knight, Kerri (Jason) Shannon and Kelly (Junior) Zamarian; and two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Brayden Shannon.

He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, on July 28, 2001; two brothers, Harry and George; and two sisters, Mary (Mae)and Helen.

Mr. Caruso will be remembered as a well-liked and respected business and family man.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church.

Burial will be in Peck’s Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 83 E. Albany St., Oswego, NY 13126.

  1. Bill was a great gentleman.
    He always had a pocketfull of hard candy to give out to anyone he talked too.
