Carleton C. Sahm, 80

HANNIBAL, NY – Carleton “Carl” Sahm, 80, of Hannibal, passed away at home on Saturday December 29, 2012.

Carl was born in Clay, a son to the late Ernest and Elsie Sahm.

He lived in Clay until 1983 when he moved to Hannibal and started a wonderful life with his beautiful bride, Debra.

Carl was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War where he served in the 10th Battalion out of Amboy.

He was a proud volunteer fireman serving from 1953 to 1983 with the Clay Volunteer Fire Department.

Carleton retired from General Electric in 1988.

During his retirement years, he worked as a carrier for the Palladium Times, was a vegetable farmer and drove school bus for the Fulton City School District where he met his good friend, Andy Butler.

Carl and Debra enjoyed spending their summer’s camping at the Piney Woods Campground in North Rose, where they met a lot of good friends.

Carl was a NY Yankees fan, was always willing to help others and had a lot of good stories and laughs around the campfire.

In addition to his parents, Carleton was predeceased by his son, Ronald Sahm; sisters, Betty Rose, Eunice, Dorothy and Sharon; brothers, Milford, Arloe, Ernie and George; and his in-laws, Marilyn and Ray.

Carleton is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Debra; children, Shirley (Dick), Carleton Jr. “Butch,” Teresa, Cynthia, Debbie and Mike; sisters, Mary Jane, Barbara, Bernice, Nancy, Beatrice, Diane and Linda; daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Carl) Thompson; cousins, Leona Sahm, Edith and Cliff Blair; close friend, Mary Turner; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Carl is also survived by his pride-n-joy dogs, Molly and Bella and his cats, Tinkerbell and Peanut.

Calling hours were Monday, December 31, 2012, with a service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.

Burial, with military honors, will be in the spring at Jacksonville Cemetery, Lysander.

  1. Deb,my heart goes out to you at this difficult time. I will allways remember all the fruits and veggies myself and brother and sisters harvested with u and carl.. wonderfull man who will be missed by many. May he rest in peace
