HANNIBAL, NY – Donald E. Woods, 81, of Hannibal, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday January 30, 2015.
Born June 2, 1933, in Minetto to the late Henry and Anna Miller Woods, he had lived in Oswego before moving to Hannibal.
Donald was a proud U.S. Army veteran and member of the American Legion Post 658 in Fair Haven and VFW Post 2320 in Oswego.
He enjoyed hunting, helping everyone and spending time with his family; especially his weekly coffee visits with his nephew, Danny, and his wife, Mary Chillson of Hannibal.
He was a 20-year employee of Alcan before retiring in 1989 and also served on Alcan’s volunteer fire department.
Donald was predeceased by his wife, Alice Hall Woods, on July 22, 2003; two sisters, Ruth Potter and Mary Dopp; and two brothers, John and James Woods.
He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his son, Donald E. Woods Jr. of Hannibal; daughter, Cynthia Woods of Oswego; four grandchildren, James Moody Jr., Carol Hawn (Jeffrey Burridge), Anna Thompson all of Oswego and Francis “Lenny” Thompson Jr. (Sara Becker) of Hannibal; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Catherine “Katie” Chillson of Hannibal and Margaret “Jane” Sharkey of Oswego; and a brother, Harold “Skee” Woods of Oswego.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. with a service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St.
Burial with military honors will be at Fairdale Rural Cemetery in the spring.
Should friends and family desire, contributions may be sent to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Donald.
