Edmond J. Growe, 67

FULTON, NY – Edmond J. Growe, 67, of Fulton, passed away on Wednesday December 28, 2016, at Morningstar Care Center in Oswego.

Ed was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam.

At the age of 18, he arrived at Bien-Wa Air Force Base two days before the beginning of the Tet Offensive and fought courageously in that major battle.

Ed was a retired member of the CNY Laborers Union 214 in East Syracuse.

He worked on many projects in Oswego including Nine Mile Two and was a licensed asbestos remover.

Ed loved fishing and ice fishing especially with his father, brother and cousin, Ivan Growe.

More recently, he enjoyed going to Mimi’s and Shannon’s Hot Dog Stand both in Fulton as well as the Fulton YMCA.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Florence Gardner Growe; his brother, Martin Growe, who died April 23, 2016; and his sister, Edith Kline.

Surviving are his sister, Virginia Messerschmidt of Fulton; nephew, Joseph Messerschmidt of East Syracuse; sister-in-law, Kim Rossiter; many cousins and friends and companion, Rosa Ozuma.

Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, with a 1 p.m. service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

Burial will be at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal, in the spring.

The family would like to thank all the friends in the Fulton area for their support as well as the staff at Morningstar for taking care of Ed.

  1. Oh so sorry Ginny, I was very shocked to see of Eddie’s passing. So very proud that my cousin was such a fine service man, thank you.

  3. Thank you Kristin. After losing Marty in April this is pretty hard to take. Miss them both. Looking fore ward to better times. He had colon cancer which the Veteran’s doctor missed. I believe Grama Growe also had that.
