Edwin R. Smith, Jr. 81

Edwin R. Smith, Jr. 81, of Fulton died Wednesday at Oswego Hospital.

A native of Fulton, Mr. Smith was a life resident. He retired in 1991 from Carrier Corporation in Syracuse after 40 years.

Mr. Smith served in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1950. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 569, the Merton Kemp, Jr. Detachment 651 Marine Corps League both in Fulton and the American Legion Post 268 in Oswego.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his wife, the former Marilyn L. Hicks who died January 15, 2002.

Surviving: three daughters, Stacy (Timothy) Nichols of Buffalo, Cathy Smith of Wolcott and Kyle Gerth of Fulton; a sister, Marilyn (Hollis) Mellen of Oswego; a brother, David Smith of Annapolis, Maryland; eight grandchildren, Jason Nichols, Andy Nichols, Emelie Nichols, Chanda Nodine, Greg Tulik, Chad Smith, Brigette Smith and Ashley Gerth; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Willis, Aiden Nodine and Tiegen Nodine; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Friday 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. service to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. Burial will be Monday 1 p.m. at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.
