FULTON, NY – George H. Tallents, 91, died after a brief illness on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at home with his family by his side.
Born in Oneida, he was raised in Fulton and Watertown.
George served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed on Saipan in the South Pacific.
He had owned and operated George Tallents Plumbing and Heating in Fulton for 50 years.
He was a long time member of the American Legion after his military service.
George had served the city of Fulton for many years on the Fire and Police Commission, Plumbing Board and Civil Service Commission, the latter two as chairman for much of that time.
He was a member of the Fulton Home Builders Association and with his wife, Rita, was a member of the local square dancing club for many years.
He was an antique car enthusiast and could be found many summer weekends in parades, weddings and at antique car shows.
George and Rita loved traveling to hard to reach places like Northern Canada, Alaska, James Bay, Hudson Bay and national parks.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rita, in 1992.
Surviving are his loving companion, Athalie Bymaster of Fulton; sons, Brace (Wendy) Tallents, Michael (Diane) Tallents, Brett (Sue) Tallents and Mark Tallents all of Fulton; his sister, Joan Tallents of Watertown; 12 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, State Route 48 in Minetto where he attended regularly.
The family will greet friends at a reception following the services.
