FULTON – James “Hunk” McNamara, 86, a lifelong resident of Fulton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 21, 2020.

Jim graduated from Fulton High School and attended Ithaca College. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956 and was a retiree of Niagara Mohawk. He served honorably as Fulton’s Fifth Ward Alderman for 20 years. Jim was also a lifelong communicant of Immaculate Conception Church – Holy Trinity Parish.
Jim was an outstanding athlete and sports enthusiast. He was named to the Oswego County Basketball All Star Team in 1951 and as an avid golfer, twice shot his age.
Jim and wife, Marlene enjoyed their retirement by traveling to Europe several times, including four visits to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Portugal and wintering in Myrtle Beach.
Jim was highly involved in church activities and has coached the parish boy’s CYO League basketball team.
Along with his passion for church and golf, Jim loved spending time with his family, his hometown, and Notre Dame sports.
Jim was known for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, and his ability to get along with people.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marlene (DeRoo); sons, Timothy (Donna), Thomas (Cindy McArdell), Terence (Kim Wright); daughters, Michelle (Ron) Bullard and Donna (Bill) Kramp; sisters, Patricia Merritt and Norma (Ron) Broderick; brothers, Joseph (Sandra), Michael and Thomas; sisters-in-law, Donna (Robert) Dlugozima and Marjorie McNamara; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Norman, mother, Margaret Eleanor and brother, John.
Due to COVID-19, calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Rochester and South Third Streets in Fulton. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, 309 Buffalo Street Fulton, NY 13069. Foster Funeral Home, Fulton has care of arrangements.

So very sorry to hear of Mr Mac’s passing…since I moved away he and mrs. Mac would always recognize me whenever I returned home to Fulton..they always greeted me with a smile and a kind word…always asking about my parents….my condolences to the entire McNamara family…
