FULTON, NY – John H. Halstead, 96, of Hannibal, formerly of San Diego, Calif., passed away on Saturday February 20, 2016, at Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton.
A native of Fulton, he resided in San Diego from 1946 until recently.
John retired in 1978 from the San Diego County Probation Department after 30 years.
He was a former member of State Street United Methodist Church in Fulton and had served in the U.S. Army with the 84th Infantry during World War II and the Counter Intelligence Corps during the Korean War.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude Halstead, in 2014; and grandson, John David Halstead, in 2013.
Surviving are his son, J. David (Joann) Halstead of Fulton; grandchildren, Heather Halstead and Lorrie Anderson; great-grandchildren, Shayne Anderson, Hannah Halstead and John David Halstead III; and several nieces and nephews.
A spring graveside service with military honors will be held at Fairdale Rural Cemetery in Hannibal.
