John L. Phillips, 74

HANNIBAL, NY – John L. Phillips, 74, of Hannibal, passed away Thursday July 31, 2014, at University Hospital in Syracuse.

John was born in Fulton, a son to the late Samuel and Viola Phillips and lived all his life in Hannibal.

He was a graduate of Hannibal High School and Morrisville State College.

John was a machinist and worked at Black Clawson for 14 years before going to work for Owens-Illinois, retiring in 2002.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed going to auctions and spending time at his hunting camp in Bath, NY.

John was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #830, Fulton.

He is survived by his fiancé, Frances Norring; a brother, James C. Phillips; a sister, Barbara; four children, Steve (Janis) Phillips, Michael (Cindy) Phillips, Christopher (B.J.) Phillips and Jonathan (Tracy) Phillips; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; and a close friend, Dean Thompson.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, with services to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about John, he was always a good friend and always shared good advice on engines, guns and outdoor life. He will be missed.
