Joseph F. Shaben

FULTON – Joseph F. Shaben, 73, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital from complications developed during the treatment of leukemia.

He served in the United States Navy Submarine Service as a plank owner and original crew aboard the USS Mariano G. Vallejo based in Pearl Harbor. Joe retired as an operating engineer with the Veteran’s Administration after 38 years of service. He was an active member of the Cody Volunteer Fire Department.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elaine (Tomeny) Shaben; four children, Jeffrey L. (Natasha) Shaben of Logan, Ohio, Sara E. (Brian) Dugan of Ravenna, Ohio, Marc J. Shaben of Springfield, Virginia and Mary E. Shaben of Fulton, New York; six grandchildren, John Shaben, Sam Shaben, Benjamin Shaben, Carson Shaben, Brian Dugan, II and Hannah Dugan; sister, Gail Shaben and was especially close to his nephews, Joe Lamb and John Watson and niece, Jill Webb.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mare Island Historic Park Foundation, 658 Sail Monument, 1100 Railroad Avenue, Vallejo, CA 94534 or mareislandmuseum.org, in Joe’s memory. Foster Funeral Home, Fulton, has care of arrangements.

  1. Joe and I were Boy Scouts together in Fulton and went on many hikes and campouts together. He was a friend. Sorry for your loss. He will be missed.
