HANNIBAL, NY – Joseph V. Miano, 94, of Hannibal, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020.

Born in Oswego, a son to the late Joseph and Myrtle (Greene) Miano, he was a lifelong resident of Hannibal. Joe was a sergeant in the US Army serving during World War II. After the military, he was a sheriff for the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and then the Highway Superintendent for Hannibal Highway Department for four years. Joe was also a member of the Hannibal American Legion, an avid golfer and a member of the Honor Flight in Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian in May of 2011; three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are several nieces, and nephews.
The family regrettably had to make the tough decision not to hold calling hours or a funeral service for their loved one at this time due to the COVID-19 virus. A private graveside service with military honors will be held in Hannibal Village Cemetery.
For those wishing, donations may be made to the Salvation Army https://give.salvationarmyusa.org/ or the Golisano Children’s Hospital, https://www.upstatefoundation.org/ in Joe’s Memory.
Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal has care of arrangements.

My deepest sympathies to Joe’s family and loved ones. I knew Joe from my years with the Fulton PD. He was a great guy and one terrific cop.
