Marcia E. Halstead, 73, of Fulton passed away Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at home surrounded by her family.

Marcia was born on June 12, 1936 in Oswego, NY. She grew up in Hannibal where she graduated from Hannibal High School in 1953. Marcia was formerly employed as a nurse’s aide at Michaud Nursing Home, a nursing assistant for a local doctor’s office, a clerk with Montgomery Ward and in the office at The George Washington University. She also worked as a floral designer with her sisters at Design Accents by Nancy. She was able to continue her passion for floral design as she volunteered her time as a designer and coordinator for the Gift Shop in Memorial Hospital of Union County when she lived in Marysville, Ohio from 1994 to 1999.

However, Marcia was best known for being a loving mother to all of her children and making everyone feel welcome with a warm smile and open arms. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, long talks, traveling, flowers and gardening. She had a special gift for crocheting beautiful pieces, all of which will be cherished by her loved ones.

She was a former member of the Granby Center United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. Marcia was an active member of the Fulton First United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and volunteered on several church committees. She was predeceased by a daughter, Raye Ann Gleason.

Marcia is survived by her husband of 34 years, Gordon L. Halstead; seven children, Kimberley (David) Winterhalt of Oswego, Tracy (Rosann) Carroll of Hannibal, Marty (Kathy) Halstead of Hannibal, Christopher (Theresa) Carroll of Cocoa Beach, FL, Todd (Kiranna) Halstead of Raleigh, NC, Amy (Timothy) Galletta of Fulton and Jared (Heather) Halstead of Columbus, OH; siblings, William Dawson of FL, Gary Dawson of FL, Nancy Galizia of Fulton, Barry Dawson of Wappingers Falls and Beth Lockwood of Fulton; 17 grandchildren, Judson, Dustin, Derek, Daniel, Ashley, Mara, Garrett, Jennifer, Kristen, Tomiko, Justin, Morgan, Dylan, Savannah, Dakota, Chandler and Ava; 5 great-grandchildren,

Services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton First United Methodist Church, 1408 St. Rt. 176, Fulton. Private burial will be at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.

    I am so very sorry to hear of Marcia’s passing. She was a wonderful person. I have known her all of my life, and she was always concerned about others. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
