Mark Lee Knight, 74

FULTON, NY – Mark Lee Knight, 74, formerly of Fulton, died Tuesday November 25, 2014, at Autumn Care in Saluda, NC, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on October 23, 1940, in Fulton and was the son of the late James F. and Emma (Guile) Knight.

Mark graduated from Oswego Catholic High School and St. Bonaventure University.

He completed graduate studies at SUNY Oswego, Columbia University, City College of New York, St. Bonaventure University, Harvard University and UCLA.

He received his M.S. degree in Chemical Education and an M.S. degree in Guidance and Counseling and was a life member of the National Science Teachers Association.

Mark taught chemistry at Fulton High School, G. Ray Bodley High School, Bishop Grimes High School where he also coached volleyball and Christian Brothers Academy.

He was also Director of Admissions at St. Bonaventure University.

Mark was an active member of the Fulton Men’s Chorus, the original Fulton Community Theater and the Bishop Grimes Community Theater and for many years was director of the traveling Bishop Grimes Lenten Mystery Players.

In 1989, he was the recipient of the Bishop Harrison Coach of the Year Award.

Mark enjoyed gardening, reading, birds and traveling.  He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC.

Mark was predeceased by his parents and a brother, James Knight, all of Fulton.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former, Rosalind M. Spaman of Mill Spring, NC; daughter, Allison (Kevin) Wierman of Mill Spring, NC, and daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Spencer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandchildren: Hannah (Jeff) Chale, Jessica (James) Bowers, William Wierman, Shaun and Samantha Spencer; great-grandchildren: Lydia and Luke Chale and Brynn Bowers; brothers, Donald Knight of Fulton and Francis Knight of Simi Valley, Calif.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon December 1 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of South Third and Buffalo streets, Fulton, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Fulton.

  1. My condolences to the Knight family. Sorry I cannot be present for the services as I am in Florida at this time. But you will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
