A Fulton native, Baba was born January 29, 1927, to the late Wosil and Anastasia Hudyma.

She was a graduate of Fulton High School and worked at Armstrong, Herron’s, and Nestle.

She met her husband, Jim, in 1946; they married after the war and promptly got to work pouring and laying concrete blocks for the house that is still called home today.

Baba loved bowling, dominoes, yelling out answers to Wheel of Fortune, running the wood splitter for Jim, and hosting an annual family Christmas Eve party.

Among her greatest joys was watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild grow up.

She was one of their biggest fans, attending countless school plays, sporting events and graduations.

Baba was predeceased by her brothers, Carl and John Hudyma; sister, Anna Hudyma Malone; and daughter, Marsha Smith Orkis.

Baba is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 68 years, Jim; her daughter, Linda Smith O’Hara; her son-in-law, Bill (Carol) Orkis; grandchildren, Daniel (Lauren) O’Hara, Jennifer O. (Dan) Waistell, Kaylan O. (Matt) Normandeau and Mitchell (Sean) Orkis; great-grandchild, Brody Smith Normandeau; and loving nieces, Gail Malone Leonard and Carla Malone Gardner.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, at The Church of the Holy Trinity, corner of Rochester and South Third streets, Fulton.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.

Baba Smith was like our second mother, having lived next door to us since we were infants. She was always kind and loving. She and our mom became the best of friends and, in fact, remained close until our mom passed less than three months ago. We could not have asked for anyone better to be our neighbor. And we are sure they will now continue their conversations in heaven. Blessings to Jim and Linda. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.
    Love,
Rusty, Jim, Lee and Joy Okoniewski
