Richard “Richie” P. Kerfien

VOLNEY, NY – September 8, 2024, Richard “Richie” P. Kerfien, 83, of Volney passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness.  He was a lifetime resident of Volney, born to the late Lottie Mae and Leslie F. Kerfien, Sr. Richie worked as an Operating Engineer with Operating Engineers Local 545 for over 60 years.  In his free time, he enjoyed being out in his garage working on motors and vehicles and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Richie is predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Etta Kerfien; daughters, Donna, Diane (Michael), and Penny; grandchildren, Jessica (James), Carolyn (Clint), Jennifer (Carl) and Dustin; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob, Fred, Ed and Tom, along with several nieces and nephews.

All services are private per Richie’s wishes.  Private burial will be in Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.  Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

  1. i remember Richie back in the 60’s he was living on the silk road just down from northern in fact I think he worked for northern at that time any way i was running my dads sawmill RR tucker hardwood on black creek , Richie would always fix any problem we had with the log truck and get us back going. and he also did it for most the areas loggers. Great guy.RIP
