Ruth E. Pierce, 94

HANNIBAL, NY – Ruth Elizabeth Pierce, 94, of Pittsford, formerly of Martville, died Monday May 26, 2014, at the Highlands Living Center.

She was born in Fulton, a daughter to the late, Elbert and Emma Jane Pilling and lived in Martville for most of her life.

Ruth worked at Schuler Potato Chip factory in Cato for five years before becoming a homemaker and creating a beautiful home for her family.

She was a foster mother and was very active with the Foster Parents Association.

Ruth was a member of the Martville United Methodist Church and its W.S.C.S. group.

She was a member of the Curfew Club in Martville and enjoyed gardening and reading.

For many years, Ruth and her husband, John, had a booth at the farmers’ markets in Oswego and Fulton.

They were well known for their quality vegetables, jellies, jams and breads.

She was predeceased by her husband, John, who died in 2000; a daughter, Sandra Barry, in 2013; a grandson, Kevin Pierce, in 2002 and by a son, Mark Taro, in 2013.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Carol (Alan) Baechle of Liverpool and Gail (Melvin) Wiltse of Holderness, NH;  five sons, Jeff (Betsy) Pierce of Weedsport, Robert (Steve Subera) Pierce of Mars Hill, N.C., Guy (Mary Lou) Taro of Gatlinburg, Tenn., George Kuchani and  Rick Kuchani; 14 grandchildren, Eve (Andy) Gainer, Terri (Bill) Wiltse-Pandolph, Pam (Tom) Allen, John Jamie Pierce, Jodi Pierce, Kelsey Dusharm, Brady Taro, Lyndsey Parker, Tina Ball, Terry Kent, Sarah, Anthony, Sawyer and Dorothy Taro; nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, Ruth’s birthday, with a memorial service to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.

Burial will be private at Fairdale Rural Cemetery, Hannibal.
