FULTON, NY – Timothy J. Chawgo, 71, of Palermo passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

He was born June 24, 1946, in Sacketts Harbor, NY, where he met his high school sweetheart, Virginia Murphy.

Rather than being drafted into the military, Tim signed up with the U.S. Navy serving from 1965 to 1969.

He and his wife moved to the Palermo community in 1969 and worked many years for Xerox Corporation.

Tim then became self employed as a back hoe excavator and proprietor of TBS Contracting before retiring as an electronics technician at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

During his life, Tim was very involved in the Palermo Fire Department where he was a lifetime member, former assistant chief and playing on the softball team.

He was an active member of the Palermo United Methodist Church and served as town of Palermo Supervisor.

Tim played in several local bands as drummer and singer most notably for the band “Solid Gold” for 15 years.

He built several homes and loved to tinker and build things; there was nothing that he could not fix.

Tim was known for his sense of humor, peanut brittle and popcorn balls.

Surviving are his wife of 18 + 3 years, Virginia Murphy Larkin of Palermo; three children, daughters, Tammie Nipper (Donald) and Joni Loomis (Robert) of Palermo and son, Jon Chawgo (Therese) of Scriba; three step-children, Julie Parkhurst (Gary) of Oswego, Debbie Ames (David) and Gary Larkin (Sherri) of Snohomish, Wash.; brother, Kenneth Chawgo (Faye) of Sandy Creek; six grandchildren, Ashley Ward, Alicia Kennedy, Aaron Nipper, Alexander Nipper, Austin Chawgo and Abigail Loomis; 14 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Beatrice “Mickey” Chawgo; and brothers, Carl and George “Cork” Chawgo.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Foster Funeral Home, Inc., 910 Fay St., Fulton.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the Palermo United Methodist Church, 11 County Route 35 in Palermo.

Burial, at Palermo Center Cemetery, will be in the spring.
