Violet Smith Hotchkiss, 73

FULTON, NY – Violet Smith Hotchkiss, 73, of Fulton, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Violet was born in Waterloo and lived most of her life in Mexico and Fulton.

She graduated in 1956 from Fulton High School.

Violet was employed at Crouse Hinds for 15 years and A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital for 25 years, before retiring in 1997.

Violet was predeceased by her son, Edward McGibbon Hotchkiss; mother, Viola Jerome Smith Martin; father, Arthur W. Smith; and three brothers, Arthur S. Smith, Edward J. Smith and Charles L. Smith.

Surviving Violet are her husband of 56 years, Raymond; daughters, Cynthia (Richard) Turner of Westerly, RI and Wendy (Lynn) Dayger of Canterbury, Conn.; son, Dustin (Bonnie) Hotchkiss of Fulton; one brother, Harold (Betty) Smith of Greenville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Kerry (John) Heinz of Dunlap, Ill., Austin (Stephanie) Dayger of Plainfield, Conn., Alecia Dayger of Sommerville, Mass., Nicole Lastra of Fulton, Jennifer Hotchkiss of Minetto, Kadin and Cheyenne Hotchkiss of Fulton; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Violet was a Girl Scout Leader from 1969 through 1972 at Oak Street School.

She loved spending time with her children and great grandchildren.

She also enjoyed bingo and playing cards with her family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, you may honor Violet’s memory by sending your contributions to Department of Cell & Developmental Biology, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Anatomical Gift Program, 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse, NY, 13210 where Violet has generously donated her body for the advancement of medical education and research.

  1. Mr Hotchkiss ,I just heard of Violet passing over the week -end ,You all have my heartfelt sympathy ,Dusty ,see I didn’t forget you ,or any of you .
    Eddie was the one I counted as my high school sweetheart ,and that makes you as a family very special to me ,so I will never forget you !!!!

  2. Vi, was a great woman and will be missed by many. I didnt find out about her death until late. Vis brother was married to my Aunt Floence until the time of his death. I also was able to work with Vi at A l Lee memorial Hospital. May God grant you all the peace that you need at this time. My thioughts and prayer s are with you all. God Bless.
