Betty L. Whalen

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Betty L. (Crego) Whalen, 63, of Oswego passed away on Wednesday April 22, 2020 at home surrounded by her family.

Betty was born in Oswego on February 11, 1957, a daughter to the late Franklyn and Marie Crego.  She was a graduate of the Oswego High School, class of 1974.   She was a lifelong resident of the Oswego area.  She was primarily a homemaker but, did work as a pharmacy technician.  She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she was involved in the choir and the Methodist Youth Fellowship.  Betty loved her six grandchildren and spending time with them was one of her most favorite things to do.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Henry J. Whalen; her parents, Franklyn and Marie Crego; siblings, William Crego, Rev. Harold Crego, Constance Smith, and Barbara Crego; sister in law Judy (Taylor) Crego; brother in laws, William Hogan II and Joseph Smith.

She is survived by her four children, Phillip Whalen of Oswego, Alyssa (Whalen) Wyatt of Tennessee, Joseph Whalen (Katlynn Wetzel) of Oswego, and Brian Whalen (Heather George) of Oswego; siblings, Corinne (Crego) Lewis of Oswego, Frances Hogan of Oswego, Shirley (Bruce) Turner of Oswego, Frank (Glenda) Crego of Paxton, Illinois, Samuel (Tina) Crego of Oswego; sister in law Beverly Crego of Olean, NY; her six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved 12 year old fur baby, Max.  

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Oswego County Hospice in Betty’s memory.

James A. Menter Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

  1. I just can not put it to words how much our lifelong friendship meant to me. I will miss you so much . You and I became friends as young children and remained friends till you went home to the lord. I know one day we will meet again. I pray you are now with your husband you so missed. and the rest of your family . Rip dear friend I was blessed to have a friend like you .
