Joan C. Osypiewski

OSWEGO – Joan C. Osypiewski, 93, of Oswego, passed peacefully on March 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in North Tonawanda, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith (Kolk) Brzeczkowski.

Joan worked as a secretary for Van Raaite in North Tonawanda.  She married the love of her life Frank J. Osypiewski in 1954, and they relocated to Oswego in 1969, where they raised their six kids.

Known by many of her children’s friends as “Mom”, Joan not only loved all children, they equally loved her back.  She was heavily involved in St. Paul’s Academy, where her children attended.  She continued to be involved for many years afterward as a mentor.  She was also the primary caregiver for most of her grandchildren.  Beginning in 1971, Joan was involved with the New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, Marigold Chapter, serving as state president on two separate occasions.  Joan was very fond of birds and bird watching.  She was a talented artist and loved all sorts of yarn crafts, and she often made items for births, weddings, and to comfort others.

Joan is survived by her husband of 69 years Frank Joseph Osypiewski, her daughters Kathryn Thomas, Deborah (Hugh) Brewer, Annette (Frank) O’Pray, and Theresa (Bill) Dowdle, and her son Mark Osypiewski.   Joan also leaves behind her brother Thomas (Mary Jane) Brzeczkowski, grandchildren Karolyn Thomas, Bryan Conzone, Sarah DiCarlo, Nicholas Rose, Brandon Osypiewski, Elizabeth Harvey, Chelsee Brockwell, and Patrick Harvey, and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Osypiewski and grandson Christopher DiCarlo, as well as siblings Hank Brzeczkowski and Jean Brzeczkowski.
