Sarah “Sally” R. Demore

OSWEGO – Sarah SallyR. Demore, a life-long Oswego resident, formerly of Fifth Ave, passed away on January 15, 2023, at St. Lukes Heath Center following a long illness.

Born on January 9, 1940, in Oswego NY, to John (Jack) and Laura (Malone) Demore, Sally was a lifelong communicant of St. Marys Church.  She attended St. Marys School and Oswego Catholic High School, graduating in 1959.  After high school, she completed a business curriculum at CCBI Business School in Syracuse. She worked for a short time as a key-punch operator in Rochester before returning to Oswego.  She also worked at Olga Knitting Mills and then accepted a job at the Oswego Credit Bureau.  She was promoted to Office Manager, a position she held for more than 20 years.  She then was employed at SUNY Oswego, working in Building Services until her retirement in 2007.

She was active in Beta Chi Sorority and earned The Girl of the Yearaward in 1986.  She also was a member of the Womens Zonta Club. She enjoyed charitable activities and volunteered as often as possible.  She was always ready to help wherever there was a need. She was an active member of the OCHS Class of 59 Alumni group.

In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her Mother and her Aunt Rose Audlin on bus trips with the Elks and St. Josephs Church.  She also traveled and spent time with her sister Marie (Demore) Dupell in NJ and Fla. as well as traveling and spending time with her cousins.  She visited both Ireland and Italy with Fr. John Hogan and parishioners from St. Marys.

Sally is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Marie) Dupell as well as several cousins and their families.

Sally loved nothing more than celebrating and being with people.  There are no visitation or calling hours. A funeral mass and a celebration of her life will be held in July. Sally’s burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
