Andrew R. Himes, 21

OSWEGO, NY – Andrew R. Himes, 21, of Oswego, passed away in New York City on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010.

He was born in Oswego in 1989.

Andy attended Leighton Elementary School, and graduated from Oswego High School in 2007.

He was baptized in the Alliance Church in the spring of 2007.

Since that time, he has been a powerful force for Christianity, being very active with this church, as well as several other religious organizations.

He was Youth Leader of the New Covenant Community Church Youth Group and a volunteer at the Oswego Alliance Church Summer Vacation Bible School.

Andy attended Oswego State College from 2007 to 2010.

As a student, he served as president of the Campus Christian Ministries and was the leader of its International Bible Study Program.

He was also an active participant in SUNY’s Outpouring Church and its community activities.

In April of this year he enrolled as a student in the Bowery Mission’s Discipleship Program in midtown Manhattan.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed creative writing, especially short stories.

He is survived by his parents, Keith and Susie (Gracey) Himes; a sister, Rachael; as well his maternal grandmother and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oswego Alliance Church.

Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St., Oswego.

  1. Andy was such an amazing person with the biggest heart ive ever met. If his paretns see this i played guitar with andy and he converted me to christianity. I owe my life to him, if theres any way at his wake or funeral that i could play a hymn i would be honored. please contact me if you can. 5932170. my love and grace is with you, God Bless.

  2. Andrew was such a nice person. He had a big heart and a lot of courage for the Lord. The world needs people like him, so it’s especially sad that he is no longer with us here on Earth. My condolences to his family.

  3. i just heard of his passing and am deeply sorry to all the hearts he still resides within and will always live on through,i met andrew in 2nd grade and all through elementary we worked on multiple comics and drawings together,both of us being HUGE jurrasic park and dinosaur fans,which reflected in our work and im glad to have enjoyed those times of my life with him.
