Anthony ‘Tony’ Fratto

The Honorable Anthony Fratto, former mayor of the village of Phoenix, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Francis House in Syracuse.

Mayor Fratto has been serving as mayor since 2004 and had a life of public service.

Tony was the villages Democratic Chairman for many years and a member of the Town of Schroeppel Democratic Committee and (NYCOM) NY Conference of Mayors.

Tony was employed as a funeral director with Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville.

Previous to this, Tony worked at Pirro & Sons Funeral Home (Thomas J. Pirro, Jr.).

He loved his profession and the families he served.

Many of his families have remained in close contact during his illness.

Earlier in his career, Tony was employed with HSBC Bank as operations officer in NYC, followed by a career with the Dun & Bradstreet Corp. in Stamford, Conn., as data security manager before returning to Syracuse to pursue his career as a funeral director, where he received his degree and license in 2001. Tony is a current member of the Central NY Funeral Directors Association, the NYS FDA, and National FDA.

On October 3, 2013, 86 State Street in Phoenix was named the “Fratto” Building to honor Anthony as mayor of the village of Phoenix.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Irene (Renee) Fratto; and sister-in-law, Jean Fratto.

Tony is survived by his loving partner and caregiver of 18 years, John J. Halstead of Phoenix; sisters, Belinda (Tony) Fratto-Contreras of Geneva, NY, and Palma (Bill) Evans of Waterloo, NY; brothers, Carmen and Scott (Donna) Fratto of Geneva, NY; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Baldwinsville.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva.

Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Road,  (corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse.
