Benjamin Harris, 87

NORTH SYRACUSE, NY – Benjamin Holden Harris of North Syracuse went home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday January 14, 2016, from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse after a long illness.

He was 87 years old.

Born and raised in Fulton, NY, he worked as a tool and die maker at Sealright machine shop and the Fulton Tool Co. until his retirement.

He and his wife built their home on Whitaker Road, where they raised their children and resided for nearly 30 years.

Mr. Harris joined the Navy in 1945 and served as a gunnery instructor at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego, Calif.

In addition to drawing, he was proficient in arts and crafts, using metalworking and woodworking to create everything from ingenious windmills to cartoon characters for family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, John Henry Harris and Mina Harris; his brothers, Alvin, Ross and Herbert Harris, and his sister, Myrtle Emerson.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Arlene Palmer, also a native of Fulton; his son, Scott (Linda) Harris of Fredonia, NY; daughter, Sharon Harris of Clay, NY and daughter, Susan Harris of North Syracuse, NY.

He also leaves behind his grandson, Steven Skiff; his granddaughters, Sarah Skiff and Melissa Harris; as well as his beloved cocker spaniel, Katey.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse, with services to follow.

Burial in the spring at Jacksonville Cemetery.
