Betty J. Bateman, 75, a resident of Middle Rd. Scriba, N.Y. passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at her home with her loving family at her side after losing her long battle with cancer.
Born in Granby Center, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William and Isabel (Warren) Taber.
In her early years Betty loved to compete in local Beauty Pageants and was an avid artist.
Betty was an Avon Representative for many years and won several awards. She was also a representative for Party Lite Gifts. She was employed by General Electric in Syracuse and in her later years she managed Anna’s Pizzeria in Mexico for her daughter Cheryl and also managed Bateman’s Corner Shop in Oswego for her son Richard. She enjoyed spending time with her loving husband of 57 years, Howard, as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling with her husband and was a member of a bowling league at The Pinarama Lanes for several years.
She is survived by her husband, Howard “Emo†Bateman; two sons, Randy (Jo-Anne) Bateman of Oswego and Richard (Penny) Bateman of Oswego; two daughters Cheryl (Roger) Wyatt of Georgia and Karin (Raymond) Holt of Baldwinsville; grandchildren Adam, Mary-Kay, Jeffrey, Kristy, Craig, Kasey, Katelyn, Lindsey, Aaron, Reeves, Coral and Rylee; great grandchildren, Sophie, Ethan and Brody; a brother, Edsel (Lillian) Taber of Mexico; three sisters, Beatrice Sears of Auburn; Minette Fitts of Florida; Isabel Bateman of Alaska.
Betty was predeceased by her two infants John and Kim and her siblings, Gerald “Pete†and William “Billy†Taber, Alberta Sheffield, Almeda Avery, Jackie Nelson and Mabelle “Francis†Russell.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11am at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Peck’s Cemetery, Scriba.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Monday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
